I have a dear friend that I’ve known since high school. She is also my hairdresser so that’s how we keep up with the happenings of our children. Her daughter has had a pretty tough pretty and gave birth to a beautiful baby girl named Hannah Kate. She was born at 28 weeks but is such a little fighter says my friend. I am dedicating Hannah Kate’s baby blanket to all those little ones out there who come into the world not on our time…..but their time.

5k for Little Fighter I first met Hannah nearly 6 years ago, as a 12-year-old pupil at thehigh school I work at. I was Hannah's Head of House, and was told by her Mum, Mandy, that Hannah had a secreting germanoma - an extremely rare brain tumour.

I purposely made this blanket small and used fairly simple stitches since I wanted to get it done quickly. The yarn is Bernat Softee Baby Stripes so all the color changes happen for you. You only need to worry about weaving in the ends on the new skeins added. I hope there is someone you already have in mind that needs this baby blanket to cover up their precious little one.

I thought it would be fun to do this project as a crochet-along. They always motivate me when I start seeing the projects coming together and hopefully will inspire you to finish this quick project.

Supplies:

Bernat Softee Baby Stripes, #3 Light Weight, 100 % Acrylic, 287 yards/120 grams. Colorway: Bright Future Stripes. Technically you will need only 4 balls to complete the blanket, but I used 5 so that I could purposely make the edging solid all the way around and took out those colors from the ball.

In the Books of Samuel, Hannah is the mother of the prophet Samuel. Hannah was barren, so at temple she prayed that if God gave her a son, she would give him up to become a priest. After making this promise to the lord, she returned to her husband and conceived a son who she named Samuel. When the child was weaned (around 3 years old^{[citation needed]}), Hannah gave him to Eli to be raised as a priest. She went on to have 5 more children.^[4] Hannah is also sometimes given as the name of the woman with seven sons described in 2 Maccabees.
